About UIC

Situated in Zhuhai, Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) was jointly founded by Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). It is the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Mainland and Hong Kong. Its charter has been approved by the Ministry of Education with full support from local authorities. UIC established the Graduate School in 2017 and started to offer Postgraduate Programmes, including Taught Master's Programmes in addition to Research Postgraduate Programmes that lead to MPhil or PhD degrees. Degree certificates from HKBU will be awarded upon completion.

UIC shoulders the historical mission of advancing the internationalization of Chinese higher education and taking the lead in implementing liberal arts education in China. Since its first enrollment in 2005, UIC has grown into an international institution with innovative educational approaches. More than twenty undergraduate programmes are currently being offered by four divisions: namely, the Division of Business and Management, the Division of Culture and Creativity, the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Division of Science and Technology There are more than 6000 undergraduate students now, including those from Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas. Teaching staff from more than 30 countries and regions make it possible for UIC to use English as the medium of instruction. Graduates will be awarded Bachelor's Degrees by HKBU and Graduation Certificates by UIC.

Over 70% of our graduates choose to pursue further studies every year.  Many of them are admitted to master’s degree programmes of overseas reputable universities, including Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. Graduates are in a strong position to gain employment with private and public companies in Hong Kong, mainland China, or abroad, and also in many government departments.

Music Performance Programme

Founded in 2020, the Music Performance is a programme of Division of Culture and Creativity. The programme focuses on training musicians, providing opportunities for them to develop a variety of professional skills and understandings across a range of practical and theoretical aspects of music.

A four-year comprehensive study provides students with advanced skills and a deep knowledge on instrumental playing, helping them become creative graduates who have an international outlook, as well as all-round skill sets. 

The programme will cultivate future professionals and leaders in the cultural and creative industries in China and the world. These leaders will also develop a social consciousness, and personal skills in a global environment that meet the market demands. This will contributeto the future success of liberal arts education as pioneered by UIC.

 

Course overview

1. The core programme is taught in English, including all the essential courses found in reputable universities and music institutions around the world that allows graduates to get further studies abroad.
2. Taught by an international faculty, the teachers come from European, Australia, America and other countries, 90% of them achieved doctor degrees in related areas. The strong teaching team helps students develop advanced skills in performance that enable them to become outstanding in future career.
3. Word-class facilities: well-equipped practice rooms with full series of Steinway pianos, Pro Tools recording and media studios. Acoustic superb performance venues including rehearsals studios and a variety of concert halls provide students with the best facilities and environment to practice and perform. 
4. Reasonable teacher-student ratio: the liberal art education of UIC focus on a full range of care and service for students in terms of learning, life, family, psychological, career development. There are many opportunities for students to pursuing interdisciplinary project work with arts, science and commerce programmes, aiming to nurture graduates with global vision, develop their advanced critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills through the comprehensive study.
